Adult Teachers:

Dave Simon

Dave has been teaching, playing, and writing music for over 20 years. He began teaching bass guitar while studying jazz at Webster University in St. Louis. He relocated to New York in the early 90’s where he developed and implemented a musical curriculum emphasizing ear training and improvisation while expanding his teaching to guitar and piano.

Dave has also worked in San Francisco, teaching song writing workshops and engaging in Rock ensemble instruction. Dave has played with some of the best-known St. Louis Rock bands, and has shared the stage with such groups as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Violent Femmes, Fishbone, and Toots and the Maytals.

Jordan Heimburger

Jordan has been teaching guitar and bass since the mid 1990s, and at Rock School since 2004. He is also a band director and principal arranger for all of the band programs. Jordan is the author of “Dave Simon’s Rock School—Rock Guitar Method” which is used by all of the guitar students at Rock School. He studied visual art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and studied music at Webster University. He has performed music throughout the St. Louis area over the last ten years and currently plays guitar in the rock group Red Eyed Driver.

Tracy Fishbein

Tracy, soprano, is a native of the St Louis area. In December 2005, she graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor's degree in K-12 vocal music education. While attending Mizzou, she presented several solo voice recitals and was active in various music ensembles. Her favorites include University Singers, Hitt Street Harmony, and Show-Me-Opera, where she gained experience in various styles of choral music, vocal jazz technique, opera and musical theater. As a student teacher, she taught private and group voice lessons, conducted choral and vocal jazz ensembles, and wrote and arranged pieces for elementary-age students. In St Louis, she regularly substitutes as cantor for Cantor Linda Blumenthal and sings in the High Holiday, professional and volunteer choirs at Congregation Temple Israel.

Ben Majchrzak

Ben is the author of the Dave Simon's Rock School Rock Drum Method Book.  He has been playing drums for 12 years and teaching at the Rock School since 2005.  Ben teaches all levels of drums and is a Concert Band and All-Star Band director. He has been playing with various local bands for about 7-8 years, including punk, ska, and indie rock bands. He participates in the jazz program at Webster University and has played in numerous local community theater shows. Ben has had experience playing in concert and jazz bands throughout middle and high school. Ben also teaches piano at Rock School.

Heather McEwen

Heather is a nineteen year old freshman at Maryville University, and she's been playing percussion since seventh grade.  She has been teaching private drum lessons at the rock school for 2 years.  In 2002, Heather joined Dave Simon's Rock School as a drummer in the Concert Band program.  After displaying exceptional drumming skills, she was moved into the All-Star Band program.  In high school, Heather was involved with the school concert and jazz bands, and in her church orchestra and hand bell group.   She is currently drumming with local recording artist Mood Swings.

Joel Dunlap

Joel teaches guitar, bass, piano, drums, and is also a band director here at the Rock School.  He has been playing guitar for 10 years and teaching guitar for four.  He has taken 2 years of classical guitar lessons with Kirk Hanser and played with the SCC Guitar Ensemble.  Joel is currently studying guitar with Brian Vaccaro and playing bass for the SCC Jazz Band.  He has been playing piano and drums for 8 years and currently studies both instruments at SCC.  Joel was a member of the SCC chamber and show choir for 2 years, and currently takes vocal lessons from Ken Harned at SCC.

Karl Schoenherr

Karl teaches guitar, bass, voice, and is a band director at Dave Simon's Rock School.  He graduated in May of 2005 from Greenville College in Illinois with a degree in Music Industry, with an emphasis in studio recordiing and voice training.  During his college experience he was able to spend a semester on the island of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, where he had four months to concentrate solely on writing, performing, and recording songs.

Student Teachers:

Jessie Mitchell is a 17 year old junior at St. Dominic High School. Jessie teaches guitar and works as an assistant band director at Rock School.  She began playing guitar in the 7th grade and joined Dave Simon's Concert Band at Rock School in 2003. She is now a member of the All-Star Band called the Burning Casual-T's and studies guitar with Jordan Heimburger. Jessie also plays lead guitar for the local rock band Mood Swings. She was asked to join the Sudent Teacher program after receiving consistently high scores on her guitar assessments and for the leadership skills she displayed in the All-Star Band program.

Jake Mueller is an 18 year old senior at St. Louis University High.  He started taking piano lessons at age 6.  At the age of 13 he expanded his studies to guitar and bass guitar.  Jake joined the Rock School in 2004 playing guitar in the Concert Band program.  After only 3 months, he was placed in the All-Star program.  Jake currently teaches private guitar lessons and is an assistant instructor in Rock Band 101.  Jake mentors with Jordan Heimburger and Dave Simon, and participates in our ongoing training program at Rock School.  He also plays with local touring band Harvenger.
